Baby Signing with ‘Sing and Sign'
With recent coverage in the news that children starting school have poor communication skills, baby signing is a great start to learning language and is becoming more and more popular.
Baby Signing is a term used to describe the technique of using sign language to help babies to communicate before they can talk. Babies love to wave bye-bye and clap their hands and baby signing just builds on this natural form of communication. As babies can control their arms and hand muscles much earlier than their speech muscles, we can teach them simple signs to help express themselves and they can communicate their emotions and needs as well as ‘talk' about the world around them.
The Sing and Sign programme offers many benefits.
Ø Enhance speech and language development
Ø Stimulate memory and listening skills
Ø Lessen babies' frustration
Ø Enrich your relationship with your baby
Ø Give you and your baby lots of fun!
The ‘award winning' (Best National Activity for Under 2's 2007, Best UK Baby Signing Classes 2008, What's on 4 Little Ones) Sing and Sign course covers over 100 signs relating to a baby's world. It is suitable for babies aged 6 months – 2½ years.
At Sing and Sign we teach the signs through both traditional and original songs with props and puppets. We provide a folder and weekly handouts with sign illustrations and information on the topic of the week, which builds into a comprehensive guide to baby signing.
So, if you are thinking about doing Baby Signing with your baby remember that it is great fun to do and the rewards are endless, so what's stopping you!
